CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Tennis team suffered their second conference loss on the season Tuesday falling 6-3 to No. 23 Pomona-Pitzer on the road.
Redlands drops to 10-6, 3-2 SCIAC and see their winning streak snapped at five matches.
The Bulldogs fell behind 2-1 after doubles but had their chances.
MJ Abarca (Chula Vista, CA) and
Jack Fanshawe (Brisbane, Australia)) grabbed the first point for the Maroon and Grey winning 8-6 at No. 2. The Sagehens then responded leveling the match at 1-1 following an 8-6 win at No. 3 as
Dominic Anderson (Brisbane, Australia) and
Gustavo Marcanth (Redondo Beach, CA) would fall.
It came down to the top spot with
Nico Calixto (Cathedral City, CA) and
Yoav Nir (Tel Aviv, Israel) coming back together falling in a tiebreaker 8-7 (4) allowing PP to take momentum into singles.
Calixto continues to dominate at the top cruising 6-1, 6-2 picking up another win within conference play. He deadlocked the match at 2-2. Pomona-Pitzer though would rally with three straight points to grab the upset. Marcanth would fall at No. 3 6-3, 6-1,
Jax Ledwith (West Linn, OR) would fall in straight sets at No. 5 6-4, 6-2 and Anderson would drop a tough three-setter at No. 2 despite taking the opening set 4-6, 6-0, 6-2. The last two matches on also went the distance. Nir returned to the singles lineup playing at No. 4 also taking the opening frame before falling 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
The last match on was
Cooper Whittington (Lake Oswego, OR) at No. 6 who came from a set down to force a third only to fall 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
Redlands returns to the court this Saturday, April 13 when they take on California Lutheran University beginning at 10:00 am in Thousand Oaks, CA.
