Game Recap: Women's Water Polo |

Parker and Sawin lead Redlands Women's Water Polo to season finale win, 14-12, at Caltech

PASADENA, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Water Polo team (5-20, 4-8 SCIAC) ended their 2024 season with a high scoring win, 14-12, at the California Institute of Technology on Saturday morning.

The Bulldogs held a commanding 4-1 lead early in the second quarter when Courtney Sawin (Tacoma, WA) converted on a penalty.

In the first quarter Sawin, Lucia Notaro (Thousand Oaks, CA), and Emma Parker (Yucaipa, CA) all scored with Notaro and Sawin picking up the assists.

In the final four minutes of the first half the Beavers scored two unanswered goals to get within one, 4-3, at the break.

Caltech then began the third with the first goal as they were on a 3-0 run, which tied the game at four. Less than :30 seconds after seeing the game tied for the first time since it was 1-1, Parker scored an even strength goal at the 6:23 mark to reclaim the lead for the U of R.

Parker made it back-to-back tallies for herself as goalkeeper Evelyn Teeter (Westminster, CA) found her on an outlet to make it 6-4 Redlands.

After another Beaver goal, Notaro found Sawin for a powerplay conversion before Kaitlynn Pierceall (Beaumont, CA) assisted Chritine Chua (Arcadia, CA) for an 8-5 lead with 3:02 to play in the third.

Caltech continued to battle, scoring the final goal of the third and the first of the fourth, but Redlands again was able to respond on the offensive end of the pool as Anika Lundbaek (San Anselmo, CA) scored followed by Chua who collected her second of the morning to make it a three-goal game once again, 10-7.

Despite fireworks in the first 27 minutes, the last five would see the two sides combine for nine goals as the Beavers were able to cut the lead to one, 11-10, with 3:42 remaining.

The Bulldogs, though, would put the game away with a 3-1 run that made it 14-11 with :49 seconds remaining as Parker, Pierceall, and Sawin each scored off Notaro, Sawin, and Sofia Portello (Sonoma, CA) assists.

Pierceall finishes her Bulldog career with two goals, two assists, and a steal. Fellow senior, Portello, had a goal and a steal. The third senior, Sawin, had a carer day with four goals, three assists, four drawn exclusions, and a steal.

Parker ended up with four goals, an assist, two drawn exclusions, and three steals. Teeter finished with eight saves and added an assist in 32 minutes.

This concludes the Bulldogs 2024 season. They will return their leading scorer, Parker, and fourth leading scorer Notaro. Teeter will also return in goal.
