No. 21 Bulldog Men’s Tennis makes quick work of No. 40 Chapman 9-0 on Senior Day

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Tennis team made quick work of No. 40 Chapman University 9-0 Saturday afternoon at the Verdieck Tennis Center highlighting Senior Day where Riley Visaya (Honolulu, HI) and Cameron McDaniel (Laguna Niguel, CA) were recognized. 

Redlands improves to 10-5, 3-1 SCIAC and have now won five in a row.

It was an impressive start for the Maroon and Grey sweeping doubles to put the Panthers in an early hole.  Dominic Anderson (Brisbane, Australia) and Gustavo Marcanth (Redondo Beach, CA) picked up the first point winning 8-5 at No. 2.  Nico Calixto (Cathedral City, CA) and Cooper Whittington followed with an 8-6 win at No. 3 giving UR a 2-0 lead. 

The clean sweep came at the top spot with MJ Abarca (Chula Vista, CA) and Jack Fanshawe (Brisbane, Australia) picking up their biggest win of the season upsetting Caleb Wilkins and Ian Jordan in a tiebreaker 8-7 (5) who are ranked No. 12 Nationally and No. 4 in the West Region.  But the upsets did not end in doubles as Calixto would highlight the singles matches with a straight sets upset victory at No. 1 over Wilkins who is ranked No. 11 Nationally and No. 2 in the West Region, 6-3, 6-3.

Anderson bageled his opponent at No. 2 6-0, 6-0 grabbing the fourth point for the Maroon and Grey and Marcanth would grab the clinch at No. 3 rolling 6-1, 6-1.

Josh Davydov (Bellevue, WA) moved into the singles lineup at No. 4 and he would sweep 6-2, 6-3 and Whittington at No. 6 would cruised 6-1, 6-3 moving the score to 8-0.  The last match on was Jax Ledwith (West Linn, OR) at No. 5 who went the distance picking up the clean sweep.  He and his opponent split sets 6-3, 3-6 forcing a third set ten point tiebreaker, which Ledwith would pull out 10-7.    
 
Redlands returns to the courts next week, Tuesday, April 9 when they travel to Claremont, CA with a big match-up against No. 25 Pomona-Pitzer.  The winner potentially in the hunt to host an opening round match in the upcoming SCIAC Tournament.
