REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Tennis team recognized their three seniors
Madison Sherwood (Las Vegas, NV),
Gabby Rockwood (Park City, UT) and
Livi Rockwood (Park City, UT) Saturday morning before rolling No. 50 Chapman University 9-0 at the Verdieck Tennis Center.
Redlands has won two in a row and three of their last four as they improve 7-4, 2-0 SCIAC, while Chapman drops to 4-7, 0-2 SCIAC.
It was a quick sweep in doubles for the Maroon and Grey with L. Rockwood and
Maegan Deng (Redondo Beach, CA) taking their match at the top spot 8-1. They were immediately followed by the No. 3 team of
Rayna Sugai (Las Vegas, NV) and G. Rockwood who won 8-4 moving the score to 2-0. The last match on came at No. 2 with
Christine O'Brien (Leawood, KS) and
Kiana Brady (Hermosa Beach, CA) grinding out an 8-6 win at No. 2 putting the U of R up 3-0.
In singles all six spots were taken by the Bulldogs and all in straight sets. G. Rockwood was the first off at No. 5 winning 6-2, 6-3 and
Deja Brown (San Diego, CA) would grab the clinch at No. 6 winning 6-4, 6-1. Sugai found herself at No. 2 for the second time this season and she would roll 6-2, 6-3 moving the score to 6-0. Brady had a quick first set at No. 4 winning 6-1 but ran into a test in the second pulling out a 7-5 decision. L. Rockwood followed at No. 3 winning 6-3, 6-3 and Deng would be the last one off at No. 1 taking down the top Panther player 6-3, 6-3 putting the finishing touches on an impressive win at home.
Redlands returns to the courts Sunday, April 7 when they host No. 41 Occidental College at 11:00am.
