CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Tennis team made a statement Wednesday night opening up the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament upsetting No. 2 Pomona-Pitzer 5-1 on the road in the Semi-Finals.

The Bulldogs improve to 13-6 and avenge their conference loss earlier in the season to the Sagehens, which came back on April 9 (L, 6-3).

The match was played to clinch and the Bulldogs got right to business quickly taking two of three doubles points before sweeping three straight singles matches.
Redlands fell behind 1-0 following a loss at No. 2 doubles as MJ Abarca (Chula Vista, CA) and Jack Fanshawe (Brisbane, Australia) would fall 8-4.  Dominic Anderson (Brisbane, Australia) and Gustavo Marcanth (Redondo Beach, CA) grabbed that point right back at No. 3, winning 8-5.  The decisive point came at the top spot where Nico Calixto (Cathedral City, CA) and Yoav Nir (Tel Aviv, Israel) would grab a crucial second point for the U of R holding off the Sagehens in a tiebreaker 8-7 (4).

In singles the Maroon and Grey carried the momentum with Marcanth grabbing a break in each set to win 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 moving the score to 3-1.  Calixto followed with his second win on the season against the top player Lumba from PP rolling 6-3, 6-2 moving the advantage to 4-1.  The clinch came at No. 4 from Josh Davydov (Bellevue, WA) who would hold on to win 6-4, 6-3 sending the Bulldogs to the SCIAC Tournament finale.

Redlands will play for the SCIAC Tournament Championship and the AQ Bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships on Friday, May 3 with match time to be determined.
