Redlands Men's Soccer handles Luther College 3-1

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Soccer team picked up their first win of 2024 Saturday night inside Farquhar Field after a dominant 3-1 win over Luther College.

The scoring started in the seventh minute for the U of R when a Cody Bell (Highland, CA) corner kick found Owen Jamieson's (Danville, CA) head backpost for his first of the season putting UR up 1-0.

The rest of the half then saw Julian Weber (Haiku, HI), Phillip Kostenko (Redmond, WA), and Anders Beckton (Seattle, WA) all force saves out of the Norse keeper, keeping the game at 1-0 through the opening 45:00 minutes.

Just over four minutes into the second half Kostenko found the back of the net with a header coming on a cross from Weber, which was the eventual game winner.

Only :42 seconds after picking up a yellow card, Kostenko was then assisted by C. Bell from the wing, which he put away for his brace in the 57th.

Beckton followed up the third Bulldog goal with a header that was saved. Then in the 64th he again tested the keeper but was unable to put it away.

Everything was going smoothly until the 84th when a loose ball in the box hit a Bulldog and found its way into the back of the net putting Luther on the scoreboard. Despite the goal allowed, the defense would not allow even a shot the rest of the way.

The Bulldogs outshot the Norse 16-6 with an 11-2 advantage in shots on-goal.

After finishing their third game of the week, the Bulldogs will get six days off until Friday, September 6 when the University of Puget Sound visits Farquhar Field at 7:00 p.m.
