Redlands Women's Soccer dominates in season-opening win over Wisconsin-Stout

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Soccer team (1-0) opened up their 2024 season with a dominant 6-0 win over the University of Wisconsin-Stout Friday night at Farquhar Field.

CJ Akroush (Pasadena, CA) got the offense started with the first goal of the season coming in the sixth minute when she beat the Blue Devil keeper with her left foot in the box.

Shannon Stewart (San Jose, CA) then followed making a save in goal for the Bulldogs and Natalie Turiace (San Dimas, CA) and Sabrina Semmere (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) would come down forcing saves before Kelsey Williams (Murrieta, CA) connected from long range scoring from outside the 18.

Williams took it from outside the top of the box on the left side and finished across the face of the goal, finding the top right corner.

Three minutes later in the 16th Semmere added a goal to her assist on the night as she scored on a through ball from Akroush. Semmere then netted her brace in the 31st putting UR up 4-0.

Just like the first half when the Maroon and Grey scored early, they came out in the second and kept their foot on the gas pedal with Hannah Rice (Portland, OR) taking advantage of her attacking position in the box finishing a ball that hit a defender off a corner from Anika Schmied (Santa Cruz, CA).

Then in the final minute and a half Madeline Tetens (San Diego, CA) scored her first collegiate goal to seal the 6-0 win.

Semmere finished the night with two goals and an assist despite only playing 31 minutes. Akroush's goal and assist came in just 34 minutes. Stewart made four saves to secure the shutout.

For the game Redlands outshot the Blue Devils 27-9 with 16 of those shots being on goal.  They also held a 7-6 advantage on corner kicks.

Following a day off Saturday, Redlands will host Willamette University at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 1. Willamette lost 1-0 to Austin College at Farquhar prior to the Bulldogs' game Friday afternoon.
