REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Volleyball team (4-3) cruised to a sweep over West Coast Baptist in less than an hour on Thursday evening winning 25-6, 25-10, 25-11.
Kaegan Wherry (Englewood, CO) had three kills early on in the first set with Makenna Van Hofwegen (Buckeye, AZ), Lali Makaiwi (Las Vegas, NV), and Lyric Waterman (Aurora, CO) all providing assists as the U of R led 12-2.
The Bulldogs outscored the Eagles 13-4 the rest of the way as Elizabeth Moyer (Surprise, AZ), Kasey Engel (Portland, OR), and Emma Murphy (South Jordan, UT) all had kills to put the Bulldogs up 25-6.
After eight points in the second the Eagles held a 5-3 advantage. But soon after the Bulldogs won 22 of the final 27 points to go ahead two sets. Isabella Garey (Alexandria, VA) led the way with five kills and Makaila Brooks (Las Vegas, NV) added four. Maddy Schonauer (Bakersfield, CA) set up four of the kills.
It was another competitive start in the third set with things tied up at three before Redlands finished the set and the match off with a 22-8 run.
Whitney Farrell (Bend, OR) had three service aces and six assists during the run. Kaitlyn DeLong (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) led the way in attacks with seven kills.
The Bulldogs hit a season-high .444 with only eight hitting errors. They also had 14 service aces, another season-high.
DeLong led the Bulldogs on the night with eight kils, while Garey added seven and Murphy with another five. Farrell and Makaiwi each added four service aces, Murphy and Engel each with two blocks and Waterman providing 12 assists.
Redlands will stay at home with their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opener inside Currier Gym on Friday, September 27 at 7:00 p.m. against Occidental College.
