Redlands Men's Soccer picks up key win over Chapman

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Soccer team (4-6-4, 2-3-3 SCIAC) held Chapman University scoreless in the second half during their 2-1 home victory Wednesday evening at Farquhar Field picking up a crucial three points within the conference standings.

In the 23rd minute Anders Beckton (Seattle, WA) did all the work himself as he took a pass outside the penalty area before dribbling around multiple players and placing a shot into the far-left corner for a 1-0 lead. It is his eighth goal of the season.

Despite the early goal against a more defensive team, the Bulldogs conceded less than three minutes later as Chapman managed to deadlock things.

Brady Bachman (San Diego, CA) and the Panther keeper each made saves the rest of the way to help keep the game tied at one, but it was Mateo Ambriz (Ontario, CA) who blocked a shot around the goal line that had beat Bachman and would have been a goal if he was not there.

The game-winner came from Connor Claborn (Santa Clarita, CA) who was allowed to get onto his left foot and curl it to the right corner of the goal for a 2-1 lead in the 58th minute.

It was a good combination play with him, Zachary Darmanyan (San Diego, CA), and Taylor Bell (Highland, CA) on the right side of the box as they executed on the transition opportunity.

Probably the best chance at equalizing for Chapman came in the 63rd when a long ball from the midfield found the head of an attacker, but their shot hit the outside netting.

This was the Bulldogs' first win since a 2-1 road victory at the University of La Verne back on September 24. Their reward is a trip to Whittier as they play the Poets for the second time in a week's time. Kickoff is this Saturday, October 18 beginning at 7:00pm.
