Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

U of R Men's Soccer pushes unbeaten streak to five games with win over Caltech

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Soccer team (6-6-4, 4-3-3 SCIAC) took down the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) 2-1 Wednesday evening at Farquhar Field moving them up in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) standings.

The Bulldogs have not lost a game in the last five outings (3-0-2) after posting a 1-3-1 record in the previous five.

Brady Bachman (San Diego, CA) was the first goalkeeper called into action making a save in the ninth minute. Following a pair of Bulldog corners Anders Beckton (Seattle, WA) put an attempt on target in the 16th minute but it too was handled between the posts.

Then in the final :20 seconds of the half the Bulldogs combined to get the ball into the box coming off a pass from Connor Claborn (Santa Clarita, CA), Yusef Mayet (Redondo Beach, CA) lobbed a ball over the defense to the far side of the six-yard box where Ronaldo Fernandez (Murrieta, CA) was waiting. He took the ball out of the air with a volley finish across the goal line cross cage to take Redlands into half leading 1-0.

Through 35 plus minutes in the second half the Bulldogs and Beavers had only four shots on goal combined as the game remained at 1-0.

In the 83rd minute, Redlands put away a much needed insurance tally.  Joshua Edelstein (La Mesa, CA) took a throw and passed it to Beckton who quickly got it to Claborn who needed just one touch to create space for a shot from just outside the box. He dribbled to his right and hit a knuckling ball that he kept low beating the Caltech keeper to the far corner.

That goal would prove to be very important as the Beavers scored with only five seconds remaining in the game as they floated a shot over Bachman.  Redlands held a slight 10-9 shot advantage with four shots on goal.  Caltech did earn seven corner kicks compared to the Bulldogs' three, but Bachman did finish with five saves.

Redlands has this Saturday off before traveling to Claremont next Wednesday, October 29 at 7 p.m. for an important matchup with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in their second-to-last game of the season.
