CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Soccer team (7-6-4, 5-3-3 SCIAC) won their fourth-straight game moving them into second place in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) standings following a 2-1 road win at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS).
This win on the road against the Stags is the first for the Bulldogs since the 2021 SCIAC Tournament final when they beat CMS 2-1. The last time Redlands beat Claremont-M-S on the road in the regular season came in 2017 when they won 3-2. The Bulldogs have now clinched a spot in the upcoming SCIAC Tournament and extend their winning streak to four games, currently 4-0-2 across their last six match-ups.
Anders Beckton (Seattle, WA), Taylor Bell (Highland, CA), and Zachary Darmanyan (San Diego, CA) all forced saves in the first 16 minutes leading up to the opening goal scored by Beckton in the 17th minute. Benjamin Evans won a powerful defensive header in the midfield and sent it forward towards the CMS box. Darmanyan was able to nod it down to Beckton who crushed a one-time screamer on the half-volley to the left side of the goal from 18-yards out with the keeper standing no chance.
The rest of the half saw Nicolas Janssen (Park City, UT) force a pair of CMS saves, while Brady Bachman (San Diego, CA) was not needed in the opening 45:00 minutes as the Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead into the break.
Bachman made his first save off a Stag header in the 57th minute. Jared Keyvan (Costa Mesa, CA) and Darmanyan then got looks to extend the lead but each were stopped.
In the 72nd and 73rd minutes Bachman came up big in goal with a pair of saves to preserve the 1-0 lead, which turned out to be huge as minutes later Keyvan found Beckton for a 2-0 UR lead in the 76th. Benjamin Legrand (Las Vegas, NV) clipped a beautiful diagonal ball to the left side for Keyvan to head back into the six-yard box to Beckton. Beckton then received it with his back to the goal and a defender on his back, but somehow wiggled his way out before turning and finishing low past the rooted goalie.
Beckton's second goal became even more important as CMS drew within one with 10 minutes left. Despite the narrow lead, Redlands' defense surrendered only one more shot, which got saved by Bachman to preserve the win.
Redlands finished with a slight 11-9 shot advantage, but it was their 9-5 advantage on shots on goal that separated the two sides.
The Bulldogs finish off the regular season at home for senior day against California Lutheran University this Saturday, November 1 beginning at 7:00 p.m. With a win the Bulldogs will earn a share of the 2025 SCIAC Regular-Season Championship Title with Occidental College.
