REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Water Polo team (3-14) was within two goals of the Air Force Academy at the half Sunday morning at the Thompson Aquatic Center (TAC) but got outscored 7-5 in the second 16 minutes as they fell 15-11.
Joseph Madigan (Arlington, VA) helped get the Bulldogs on the board in the middle of the first quarter as he assisted Oliver Child (Dana Point, CA).
A minute later Camilo Solis (Camarillo, CA) scored on a powerplay to bring the deficit to two, 4-2. Brody Nielsen (Capitola, CA) made it a 2-0 run with 2:28 to play in the period as Tanner Stagner (Laguna Niguel, CA) got the assist to bring the Bulldogs to within one, 4-3.
Trailing by two, 5-3, with six minutes remaining in the opening half Madigan got his second assist on the morning as he found Ossie Joplin (Kentfield, CA) in the first of three goals during a 3-1 stretch. Nielsen assisted Madigan on the second goal and Michael Villagran (Glendora, CA) found Lennon Franklin (Redlands, CA) to tie the game at six with three minutes to play.
The Falcons ended the half with two goals and began the second with two unanswered to go ahead by four, 10-6. Finley and Jensen, though, scored to make it a three-goal game with 7:38 on the clock in the fourth.
Another 4-0 Falcon run, however, put the game away as the deficit ballooned to seven, 15-8, with only 2:19 left in the game.
Nielsen, Jake Simpson (El Cajon, CA), and Liam Gore (Glendora, CA) would end the game with goals as Brady Bailey (Ramona, CA) and Villagran added assists.
Ten different Bulldogs scored with Madigan and Villagran assisting on two goals each. Troy Barker (Roseville, CA) made six saves and had a steal in the first three quarters.
The Bulldogs get midweek off before they travel to No. 5 Whittier College on Saturday, October 11 at 11:00 a.m.
