LOS ANGELES – The University of Redlands Men's Water Polo team (9-18, 7-4 SCIAC) held a 4-1 first half lead before conceding 14 goals over the final 22 minutes in a 15-11 road loss at Occidental College Saturday morning.
Ossie Joplin (Kentfield, CA) and Jake Simpson (El Cajon, CA) each had braces in the first nine minutes of the game while Matthew Wheeler (Visalia, CA) and Joseph Madigan (Arlington, VA) added assists for a 4-1 lead early in the second for the U of R.
The Tigers, though, scored six unanswered goals to take a 7-4 lead at the 6:22 mark of the third. A 4-2 response run with Camilo Solis (Camarillo, CA) assisting Michael Villagran (Glendora, CA) followed by Oliver Finley (Cape Town, South Africa) and Tim Jensen (Elmhurst, Ill.) picking up their first goals to tie the game at 10-10 with 4:50 left in the fourth.
Occidental would close out the win with a 5-1 run over the final 4:33 as Redlands dropped their second-straight Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) game.
The Bulldogs maintain their third place standing in SCIAC, but the Tigers are now only a 0.5 game behind them with one game remaining for Redlands and two for Occidental.
Redlands now prepares for senior day against California Lutheran University (CLU) next Saturday, November 15 at 11:00 a.m.
