Redlands Men's Basketball takes down Chapman thanks to a dominant second half

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Basketball team (21-3, 13-2 SCIAC) was plus 21 points in the second half during their 97-73 home win over Chapman University Wednesday night.

Despite the dominant final score, the Bulldogs found themselves down five, 32-27, with 2:30 on the clock in the first half before Jhace Boston (Bakersfield, CA) converted on a pair of free throws that started a 9-3 run that put them ahead by three at the half, 38-35.

That run continued into the second period as the U of R scored the first 10 points of the half extending their lead to 13, 48-35. During that stretch Chozen Amadi (Dallas, TX) and Lucas Gordon (San Marcos, CA) scored four points and Dayvon Gates (Carson, CA) added a basket in the paint.

The lead would eventually get into the 20's when Kendrick Currey (Manteca, CA) ended a 7-0 run with a three-point play that extended the lead to 23, 65-42, with 13:06 to play.

Donovan Ware (Palmdale, CA) capped off the great game with a trio of three-pointers that helped grow the lead to 30 plus allowing the Bulldogs to utilize their reserves.

Some of those players included Yah Humphrey (Los Angeles, CA) and Christopher Carter (Oceanside, CA) who both finished in the paint to give the Bulldogs 11 different players in the scoring column.

Currey finished with a double-double with 13 points and 14 assists. Gordon had a 16-10 game.

With the win and California Lutheran University's win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, the Bulldogs have locked up a home semifinal game in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament next Friday, February 28.

As a team Redlands shot 54.1% from the field and 75% from the free-throw line.  They also had 31 points off turnovers, 15 second chance points, 42 bench points, 68 points in the paint, and 46 fastbreak points.

For now, the Bulldogs prepare for the regular season finale at Whittier College this Saturday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m.
