REDLANDS, Calif. – In the final game of their four-game series with Whitworth University, the University of Redlands Baseball team (8-5, 2-1 SCIAC) fell 23-4 as they finished with a series split Sunday afternoon at The Yard.
The Bulldogs found themselves down 6-0 in the bottom of the second before Kaiya Saito (Bellevue, WA) took advantage of the Pirates' shift finding the hole on the right side that allowed Gabriel Ceja (Long Beach, CA) to come home.
By the time Redlands was able to push another run across the plate in the fifth, they were down double-digits. That run came from Sean McCance (Irvine, CA) who beat out a potential inning-ending double play, which allowed Neal Baron (Mercer Island, WA) to score.
Anthony Thomas (Moreno Valley, CA) then made it a 3-0 Bulldog run in the fifth when he kept his line drive inside the left field line for a two-run double that plated McCance and Karlsen Drake (San Diego, CA).
Aziz Bishop (Baltimore, MD) came on as a pinch hitter and finished 2-for-3. Baron and Drake also came off the bench and had hits and runs scored. Despite the pitching struggles for most of the staff, John Hernandez (Fontna,a CA) finished off the final 0.2 innings on only eight pitches with no runners allowed.
Redlands returns to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play this coming Friday, February 28 with game one against No. 8 Pomona-Pitzer on the road in Claremont beginning at 2:00 p.m.
