Bulldog Women’s Tennis competes with No. 4 Claremont-M-S

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Tennis team was handed their first loss on the season Saturday but put up a fight against No. 4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps falling 5-2 on the road. 

After getting swept in doubles the Bulldogs went on to win two points in singles and had three players go three sets with the Athenas. 

It was all CMS in doubles winning 6-1, 6-1, 6-3 earning the first point.  They grabbed another three points to collect the clinch immediately following.  Christine O'Brien (Leawood, KS) fell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4, Lindsey Whelan (Mercer Island, WA) fell 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 and Vrishitha Kumar (Mumbai, India) would drop a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 6.  After that the top three matches would finish up but would all go three-sets.  Deja Brown (San Diego, CA) at No. 3 found herself down 6-1 after the first set but would battle back to level things at 6-3.  The decisive third-set tiebreaker would go to the Athenas though 10-7 giving them their fifth point.

The last two matches went to the U of R at the top two spots.  Kiana Brady (Hermosa Beach, CA) dropped her opening frame at No. 2 6-4 but would force a third set tiebreaker with a 6-2 second set before taking the match 11-9 in the third-set breaker.  Maegan Deng (Redondo Beach, CA) was the last match on also going the distance.  She was able to get out in front with a 7-5 win against 2024 All-American Lindsey Eisenman but would drop the second 6-3.  The eventual tiebreaker though would go to Deng who would rally for a solid 10-5 victory. 
 
Redlands hosts Division I Oakland University on Tuesday, February 25 inside the Verdieck Tennis Center beginning at 5:00pm.
