REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Tennis team picked up their second straight win Thursday coming from behind to edge No. 27 Brandeis University 4-3 inside the Verdieck Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs found themselves down after doubles after seeing the Judges sweep.
Christine O'Brien (Leawood, KS) and
Kiana Brady (Hermosa Beach, CA) would fall at No. 2 6-2 and
Vrishitha Kumar (Mumbai, India) and
Lindsey Whelan (Mercer Island, WA) would get broken late 6-4 at No. 3. The tight match came at No. 1 from
Maegan Deng (Redondo Beach, CA) and
Deja Brown (San Diego, CA) who would go the distance before falling 7-6 (5).
In singles the Bulldogs made a comeback taking four of six matches. Brady rolled at No. 2 winning 6-1, 6-2 putting the U of R on the scoreboard. Deng followed at the top spot winning 6-4, 6-4 putting the Maroon and Grey in front and they didn't look back as Brown would take her match in straight sets at No. 3 6-1, 7-6 (3) before Whelan would clinch things at No. 5 winning 7-6 (4), 6-2.
The other two matches went to Brandeis but they would not be enough for the Judges to pick up the road win with Kumar dropping 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6 and O'Brien being forced to withdrawal in her match at No. 4 after splitting the first two sets 6-3, 2-6, 0-3.
Redlands will travel to No. 4 Claremont-M-S on Saturday, February 22 for a non-conference match beginning at 12:00pm.
