REDLANDS. Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Tennis team dropped their second straight match Tuesday night falling 5-2 to Oakland University inside the Verdieck Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs found themselves down after doubles yet again but put together strong performances at each line.
Kiana Brady (Hermosa Beach, CA) and
Christine O'Brien (Leawood, KS) put the U of R on the scoreboard with a 7-5 win at No. 2. But that was the only win picked up as
Maegan Deng (Redondo Beach, CA) and
Deja Brown (San Diego, CA) would fall 6-3 at No. 1 followed by
Lindsey Whelan (Mercer Island, WA) and
Vrishitha Kumar (Mumbai, India) at No. 3 dropping a 6-4 decision.
Trailing 1-0 the Maroon and Grey put together a comeback in singles picking up two points from Deng at the top spot winning 6-1, 6-2 and Whelan at No. 4 taking her match in three sets 7-6, 1-6, 10-4. Brown had a strong showing at No. 3 dropping in straight sets 7-6, 6-4 and Brady at No. 2 would fall 6-4, 6-2.
O'Brien would get broken late in the opening frame at 7-5 and would then drop the second 6-2. The last point picked up by the Grizzlies came at No. 6 as Kumar would drop in straights as well 6-2, 6-2.
Redlands returns to the court next Friday, March 7 when they host UC Santa Cruz in a regional match-up beginning at 4:00pm inside the Verdieck Tennis Center.
