Czajkowski's eight goals leads Redlands Women's Lacrosse to win over Cal Lutheran

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Lacrosse team (1-1, 1-1 SCIAC) won their home opener at Farquhar Field Wednesday night, 17-7, against California Lutheran University (CLU) thanks to a record night from Ruby Czajkowski (West Hartford, CT).

The Bulldog defense conceded the first goal of the game before holding the Regals scoreless for more than 18 minutes, while tallying four themselves. Those goals came from Czajkowski, Emily Webster (Ladera Ranch, CA), Nicole Sanders (Irvine, CA), and April Bryant (Danville, CA).

CLU scored for the second time with 8:18 to play in the first half, but the Redlands defensive unit and Courtney Myers (Gig Harbor, WA) kept the ball out of the back of the net for the rest of the half.

With 2:05 on the clock Czajkowski ended a six-minute scoring drought giving UR a 5-2 lead. She then scored in the final minute and a half to help the Bulldogs take a four-goal lead into the break.

In the first five minutes of the third Redlands started to create space with CLU scoring three unanswered goals to make it 9-2.

Despite not scoring for 14 minutes, the Regals continued to fight as they went on a 3-0 run down to the 5:53 mark of the third to draw within four, 9-5.

Redland then found themselves down two players, but they were able to win possession and move it around before Webster scored before the expiration of the shot clock. Czajkowski finished the quarter with a goal that made it an 11-5 game after 45 minutes.

In the final period Czajkowski added three more goals, Sanders scored the final two, and Briannah McGee (Murrieta, CA) added another for the Maroon and Grey to pick-up the 10-goal win, 17-7.

Webster had a nice evening with four goals and an assist, Maya Weaver assisted on two goals, Sanders had a hat trick, and Bryant had a goal, an assist, and eight draw controls. Myers made four saves and got her first collegiate win.

Czajkowski had a record night with eight goals and two assists for 10 points. The goals are tied for the third most in a single game in program history. The 10 points tie the program record with three other Bulldogs.

Redlands returns to the road with game one of three-straight away from Farquhar Field this Friday, February 28 at 7:00 p.m. in Los Angeles at Occidental College.
