REDLANDS, Calif. – Kyler Bacosa (San Jose, CA) and four other pitchers combined to post the University of Redlands Baseball team's (13-7) first shutout since March 2024 as they beat Dickinson College, 3-0, Monday afternoon at The Yard.
Will Cell (Seattle, WA) had the game-winning RBI's in the bottom of the second when he homered to left plating Nate Miller (San Jose, CA) who singled to open the inning.
In the sixth Bacosa was replaced by Miles Lu (San Jose, CA) who inherited two runners on and one out. After allowing a pair of steals and a walk to load the bases, Lu ended the inning with a strikeout and a fly out to Luke De Vries in center.
In the bottom half of the sixth Miller added the third run of the game on a solo shot to left.
Lu worked out of another jam in the seventh when he induced a pair of fly outs with two base runners.
Phillip Economos (Huntington Beach, CA) and Kethan Efron (Henderson, NV) combined to keep the Red Devils off the scoreboard in the eighth and Brett Edwards (Santa Monica, CA) got a game-ending double play in the ninth when Cell dove for a sinking line drive in left field before doubling up the runner at second who thought the ball would drop.
The four-five hitters, Miller and Jake Burgess (Riverside, CA), combined for five hits, two runs scored, and an RBI.
Bacosa started and went 5.1 innings scoreless. His 5.1 innings are a career-high and it's his best appearance since 2023 when he allowed one run across five innings against Caltech. Lu threw 1.2 innings, Economos 0.2, Efron 0.1, and Edwards 1.0 inning including the save.
