REDLANDS, Calif. – Nine different University of Redlands Women's Lacrosse players scored in the Bulldogs' 17-3 home win over Alfred University Tuesday night as the Bulldogs extended their winning streak to six games, improving to 6-1, 2-1 SCIAC.
Offensively the Bulldogs scored two goals in the first five minutes and held the Saxons scoreless for nearly thirteen as Cailin Walker (Portland, OR) and Maya Weaver's (Tustin, CA) goals had the U of R up 2-1 after 15 minutes.
The game was broken wide open in the second quarter when Redlands scored eight times moving the score to 10-1 at the break. Emily Webster (Ladera Ranch, CA) had a hat trick in the quarter, April Bryant (Danville, CA) and Nicole Sanders (Irvine, CA) scored twice, and Ruby Czajkowski (West Hartford, CT) tallied her first of the game.
At the 11:04 mark of the third quarter the Saxons got on the scoreboard before a 4-0 Bulldogs run put them ahead, 14-2. Two of the four third quarter tallies came from new scorers as Ella Batarse (Porter Ranch, CA) beat the keeper at the 6:16 mark followed by Sam Peters in the final :20 seconds who fed Sophia Rangel (Woodland Hills, CA) for a 14-2 lead after 45 minutes.
Rangel would finish off the game with a career-high three goals as she added two more in the fourth. Walker found Lupine Aumack (Eugene, OR) in the final minute and a half for the first goal of her collegiate career. On the other end it's Peters' second-straight game with an assist.
Jenny Quinonez Diaz (Menlo Park, CA) had a big day on defense with six ground balls and four caused turnovers. Sophia Simonds (Livermore, CA) added five ground balls and two caused turnovers. In net Courtney Myers (Gig Harbor, WA) started and picked up the win, Dani Flexen (Menifee, CA) made six saves across the final 30 minutes. As a team Redlands outshot Alfred 35-12, were 17-of-20 on clear attempts, picked up 32 groundballs, won 12 draw controls, and were 5-of-13 on free-position attempts.
Redlands is scheduled to host Chapman University this coming Saturday, March 15 at 11 a.m., but due to impending heavy rain, that game may be moved to another day due to field conditions. Keep an eye on the schedule for any changes.
