REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Lacrosse team (6-2) were within three goals of No. 17 Denison University at the half Tuesday evening at Farquhar Field, but they were unable to keep up offensively as they fell 20-8.
The two sides traded goals across the first seven minutes with Cailin Walker (Portland, OR) finding Emily Webster (Ladera Ranch, CA) for the Bulldogs' opening tally.
With 11:52 on the clock in the second Gwen Guico (Camano Island, WA) got her defender turned around and won a one-on-one with the goalkeeper to end a 3-0 Big Red run. Sophia Rangel (Woodland Hills, CA) would then help Guico make it a brace in the quarter before Jacqueline Landucci (San Mateo, CA) and April Bryant (Danville, CA) found the back of the net in the final five minutes of the half as the U of R trailed by three, 8-5.
Things started to get away from Redlands in the third when Denison scored eight times, while holding the Bulldogs to just two goals as they found themselves down nine, 16-7, after 45 minutes. Nicole Sanders (Irvine, CA) and Webster had the two goals with Ella Batarse (Porter Ranch, CA) assisting on Webster's.
Ruby Czajkowski (West Hartford, CT) registered the final goal for Redlands in the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs fell for only the second time this season, both, though, have come against Top-20 teams.
The Bulldogs did not generate a lot of offense, but Bryant did earn the Maroon and Grey extra possessions as she won 10 draw controls, tying her for 10th most in program history. It is her second Top-10 performance in her freshman season.
In goal Courtney Myers (Gig Harbor, WA) held the Big Red to an 8-for-14 mark on free position attempts as she made 11 saves across the 60 minutes.
Redlands will have a quick turnaround as they return to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play on Thursday, March 20 at 7:00 p.m. against Whittier College at Farquhar Field.
