REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Tennis team put together a tough test in doubles for No. 3 Emory University before falling 6-1 inside the Verdieck Tennis Center Monday night.
Redlands strung together a trio of strong sets in doubles to kick off the match.
Lindsey Whelan (Mercer Island, WA) and
Vrishitha Kumar (Mumbai, India) started things off with a 6-2 loss at No. 3.
Christine O'Brien (Leawood, KS) and
Kiana Brady (Hermosa Beach, CA) followed at No. 2 getting edged 7-5 and
Maegan Deng (Redondo Beach, CA) and
Deja Brown (San Diego, CA) at the top spot would fall 6-4 giving Emory the early point.
The momentum continued with the Eagles as they would take the next five points and the win. O'Brien was swept at No. 5 falling 6-0, 6-0, Whelan would drop 6-2, 6-1, Brown at No. 3 would fight in the first set before falling 6-4, 6-1, Kumar would combine for three games at No. 6 dropping 6-2, 6-1 and at No. 2 Brady despite going the distance and going up a set early would get edged 7-5, 1-6, 3-10.
Deng was the last match on and she would pick up the lone point for the Maroon and Grey fighting from a set down to win 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (2).
Redlands returns to the court this Sunday, March 16 when they host No. 8 Middlebury College inside the Verdieck Tennis Center beginning at 10:00am.
