REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Tennis team was blanked by No. 8 Middlebury Sunday morning as they would fall 7-0 inside the Verdieck Tennis Center.
Middlebury made quick work of the Bulldogs in doubles taking all three matches.
Maegan Deng (Redondo Beach, CA) and
Deja Brown (San Diego, CA) would fall 6-1 at the top spot followed by
Kiana Brady (Hermosa Beach, CA) and
Christine O'Brien (Leawood, KS) suffering the same fate 6-1 at No. 2. The best battle came at No. 3 from
Lindsay Whelan (Mercer Island, WA) and
Vrishitha Kumar (Mumbai, India) who would collect four games in a 6-4 loss.
Middlebury took the early point and carried this momentum into singles where they would take each match in straight sets. Deng fell 6-1, 6-1 quickly and was followed by O'Brien at No. 4 who would collect four games in a 6-3, 6-1 loss. Brown would battle early but would drop 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3. Brady did the same thing staying close in the first set but would ultimately fall 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2. Kumar was in the No. 6 slot totaling three games falling 6-2, 6-1 and Whelan would find the most success at No. 5 combining for seven games in a 6-4, 6-3 decision.
Redlands returns to the courts tomorrow, Monday, March 17 when they host Colorado College in a regional match-up beginning at 5:00pm inside the Verdieck Tennis Center.
