Bulldog Women’s Tennis threatens No. 10 Amherst College

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Tennis team put up a fight against No. 10 Amherst College Tuesday night falling 5-2 inside the Verdieck Tennis Center.

The Bulldogs got swept in doubles allowing the Mammoths to pick up an early point.  Kiana Brady (Hermosa Beach, CA) and Christine O'Brien (Leawood, KS) fell 6-2 at No. 2 and Lindsey Whelan (Mercer Island, WA) and Vrishitha Kumar (Mumbai, India) would follow at No. 3 dropping 6-3.  The last match came at the top spot with Deja Brown (San Diego, CA) and Maegan Deng (Redondo Beach, CA) getting broken late in a 6-4 decision.

Redlands put together some push back in singles taking two points as Deng would roll at No. 1 winning 6-2, 6-0.  The other point came at No. 6 from Kumar who grabbed another win on the season edging her opponent 6-3, 6-4. 

The other five matches would go to the Mammoths however all in straight sets as they would come away with the win.  O'Brien would drop 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5, Whelan would fall 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4, Brady would face the same score at No. 2 falling 6-4, 6-1 and Brown would have the tightest match at No. 3, ultimately dropping 6-3, 7-6 (5).       

Redlands returns to the court this Friday, March 21 when they host No. 17 Babson College beginning at 4:00pm.
