REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Tennis team had a short turnaround between matches Friday afternoon but were unphased following a 7-0 win over Whitman College within regional action inside the Verdieck Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs opened things up with an early point following doubles. Head Coach
Mike Longanecker shifted his lineup around playing
Omar Khayat (Irvine, CA) and
Jack Hinkle (Bountiful, UT) together at No. 3 doubles with them pulling out a 6-4 win. The other match was
MJ Abarca (San Diego, CA) and
Cooper Whittington (Lake Oswego, OR) coming away with the same score 6-4 in the No. 2 slot. With the point in hand the final match on was at the top with
Vitomir Petcov (Portland, OR) and
Jack Fanshawe (Brisbane, Australia) dropping a tight 7-5 decision.
In singles the Maroon and Grey took all six spots coming in straight sets.
Dominic Anderson (Brisbane, Australia) came in to win at No. 1 6-4, 6-3, Petcov bounced back following his doubles loss to take his match 6-1, 6-2,
Josh Davydov (Bellevue, WA) entered the line-up at No. 3 winning 6-1, 6-3, and Hinkle took down his opponent at No. 4 6-1, 6-0. The other two matches on came from
Alexander Losani (Hamilton, Ontario, Canada) at No. 5 who would take his first win this season 6-1, 6-4 followed by
Zac Nakajima (Beaverton, OR) at No. 6 who would grind out a 7-5, 6-3 decision.
Redlands returns to the courts tomorrow morning, Saturday, March 22 when they host No. 6 Middlebury College beginning at 10:00am inside the Verdieck Tennis Center.
