REDLANDS, Calif. – Lindsey Whelan (Mercer Island, WA) picked up the lone point for the University of Redlands Women's Tennis team Friday afternoon as the Bulldogs would fall 6-1 against No. 17 Babson College.
The Bulldogs fell behind after doubles but had an opportunity to take the opening point. After
Maegan Deng (Redondo Beach, CA) and
Deja Brown (San Diego, CA) would fall 6-2 at the top spot the team of
Christine O'Brien (Leawood, KS) and
Kiana Brady (Hermosa Beach, CA) would take down their opponents 6-2 in the No. 2 slot. The decisive point came at No. 3 from Whelan and
Vrishitha Kumar (Mumbai, India) who would get edged in a breaker 7-6 (2) allowing Babson to go in front 1-0.
In singles one match went the distance coming from Brown at No. 3 who would come from a set down to force a third-set breaker ultimately falling 6-1, 5-7, 10-7. The lone point came from Whelan at No. 5 who prevailed 6-4, 6-1. Kumar had a battle at No. 6 dropping serve once in each set at 6-4, 6-4. Deng would drop a 6-2, 6-2 decision at the top spot, O'Brien at No. 4 would grab two games in a 6-0, 6-2 loss and Brady would wrap up the final match at No. 2 forcing an early breaker before dropping 7-6 (4), 6-2.
Redlands returns to the courts on Friday, March 28 when they host No. 16 Williams College beginning at 3:00pm.
