REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Tennis team put together a tight match against No. 6 Middlebury College Saturday morning dropping 6-1 inside the Verdieck Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs put together a fight across all three spots in doubles but the Panthers would grab the early point.
Dominic Anderson (Brisbane, Australia) and
Gustavo Marcanth (Redondo Beach, CA) dropped a 6-2 decision at No. 3,
Cooper Whittington (Lake Oswego, OR) and
MJ Abarca (San Diego, CA) were broken once in a 6-4 loss at No. 2 and
Vitomir Petcov (Portland, OR) and
Jack Fanshawe (Brisbane, Australia) would fight at the top spot ultimately losing 7-5.
In singles three of the six matches went the distance with the Bulldogs grabbing a point from
Jack Hinkle (Bountiful, UT) coming from a set down to win 6-7, 7-5, 10-8. Fanshawe got up in his match early winning the first set 6-4 before dropping the next two 1-6, 4-6.
Josh Davydov (Bellevue, WA) rallied from a set down at No. 4 but would come up short losing 1-6, 7-6 (6), 4-10. Petcov dropped his match in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3, Marcanth grinded at No. 2 but would get edged 6-4, 7-6 (3), and Anderson would drop a 6-3, 6-0 decision at the top spot.
Redlands returns to the court on Tuesday, March 25 when they host George Fox University beginning at 5:00pm.
