University of Redlands Women's Flag Football Makes Historic Debut Against Saddleback College

REDLANDS, Calif. - The University of Redlands Women's Flag Football team marked a historic milestone on Friday night, as they competed in their inaugural game against Saddleback College. The much-anticipated game not only showcased the talents of the team but also represented the beginning of a new chapter in the university's athletic history.

The team, led by head coach Tatum Etchegoyen-Springer, had been preparing for this moment since the announcement of the program's creation earlier this school-year. For many of the players, it was a dream come true to have the opportunity to play at the collegiate level in a sport that has seen growing popularity across the nation.

"Following our first official game, I couldn't be prouder of the effort and growth this team has shown," explained Etchegoyen-Springer.  "In less than a month, we've come together to compete at a high level, and it's been incredible to witness.  I 'm also beyond grateful for the unwavering support we received from everyone who showed up to cheer us on.  From the athletes to the coaching staff, and the fans, we were all apart of making history.  This is just the beginning, and I couldn't be more excited for what's ahead."  

The Bulldogs, took to the "R" Field, facing off against fellow first-year program Saddleback College. Despite the nerves, the large crowd and excitement surrounding their debut, the University of Redlands team showed resilience and determination, keeping the game competitive throughout the night.

Throughout the game, key players like [insert player names] showcased their skills, including impressive flag-pulling defense and quick offensive drives. While the team may have faced challenges, the experience of playing in their first game has set the stage for future success and development in the program.

"It's an incredible feeling to finally get on the field and compete," said First-Year Quarterback and dual sport athlete (Women's Soccer) Averie Stunz who played a significant role in the game. "We've worked so hard to get to this point, and it's just the beginning for us. We know there's a lot to learn, but we're excited for what's ahead."

The University of Redlands has always prided itself on offering students the opportunity to participate in a wide range of athletic endeavors, and the addition of women's flag football to their athletic portfolio is no exception. This game not only highlighted the athleticism of the players but also brought the campus community together in support of this new program.

Though the Bulldogs fell short in their debut game, the future looks bright. The players and coaching staff are already looking forward to their next matchup in Thousand Oaks, CA on March 28-29 during the California Lutheran University Tournament and are focused on building the foundation of a competitive and successful program. With a dedicated roster and the support of the University of Redlands community, the Women's Flag Football team is ready to make their mark in collegiate athletics.

As the team continues to train, improve, and gain experience, they will undoubtedly become a force to be reckoned with in the years to come. The University of Redlands Women's Flag Football program is poised for greatness, and Friday night's game was only the beginning.
