REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Tennis team picked up their fifth win on the season Tuesday night coming back from a point down after doubles to take five of six singles matches to beat George Fox University 5-2 inside the Verdieck Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs split the opening two doubles matches.  They went in front quickly with MJ Abarca (San Diego, CA) and Cooper Whittington (Lake Oswego, OR) rolling 6-2 in the No. 2 slot.  The Bruins then leveled things at No. 1 with Vitomir Petcov (Portland, OR) and Jack Fanshawe (Brisbane, Australia) getting broken late 7-5, putting the deciding match on the No. 3's.  The match would go the distance with Omar Khayat (Irvine, CA) and Jack Hinkle (Bountiful, UT) dropping in a breaker 7-6 (6).

Trailing by a point heading into singles the Bulldogs would rally grabbing five of six singles points to come from behind for another regional victory.  Hinkle rebounded nicely at No. 4 giving up a game and winning 6-1, 6-0.  Josh Davydov (Bellevue, WA) came in at No. 3 singles and swept 6-2, 6-2.  This put the U of R up 2-1 and they weren't done with Fanshawe playing at No. 6 taking his match in straights 6-2, 6-3, Petcov rolling 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 and Dominic Anderson (Brisbane, Australia) coming in to play at the top spot and winning his match 6-2, 6-4.

The last match on was Zac Nakajima (Beaverton, OR) who took on a 10.2 UTR player at No. 5 and he put together a great match winning the opening set 6-2.  He would get edged in a second set breaker 7-6 and would eventually drop in the third set ten-point tiebreaker 10-7 allowing GFU to grab their second point and avoid the sweep.

Redlands has a quick turnaround as they open up Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play tomorrow, Wednesday, March 26 against Whittier College beginning at 3:00pm inside the Verdieck Tennis Center.
