REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Tennis team opened up Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play Wednesday afternoon sweeping the Poets of Whittier College 7-0 inside the Verdieck Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs went up quickly after doubles within an hour giving up a combined six games across the three sets.
Vitomir Petcov (Portland, OR) and
Jack Fanshawe (Brisbane, Australia) rolled 6-1 at the top spot and were followed by
Gustavo Marcanth (Redondo Beach, CA) and
Dominic Anderson (Brisbane, Australia) at No. 3 winning 6-3 and then
Cooper Whittington (Lake Oswego, OR) and
MJ Abarca (San Diego, CA) at No. 2 cruising 6-2.
In singles the momentum carried over with the Maroon and Grey taking all six spots, while making adjustments to the lineup. Abarca picked up the second point at No. 5 singles winning 6-0, 6-3 and
Alexander Losani (Hamilton, Ontario, Canada) took his match at No. 6 6-3, 6-1.
The clinch came at No. 1 from Anderson who rolled 6-0, 6-3.
Josh Davydov (Bellevue, WA) followed immediately at No. 4 taking his match in straight sets 6-2, 6-2, Petcov continued his impressive first-year campaign with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 3 and Marcanth wrapped up the scoring at No. 2 with a solid 6-1, 7-6 (6) win.
Redlands has their third match in three days as they host Linfield University tomorrow, Thursday, March 27 beginning at 4:00pm inside the Verdieck Tennis Center.
