REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Tennis team won their third straight match and their fifth out of their last six Thursday afternoon and their second in a row by shutout as they wrapped up their non-conference schedule with a 7-0 win against Linfield University.

The Bulldogs improve to 7-4, 1-0 SCIAC after a solid win in less than two hours against the Wildcats in a Northwest Conference and SCIAC showdown.

Head Coach Mike Longanecker moved his lineup around playing several reserves but that did not slow down the Bulldogs as they grabbed the doubles point before sweeping singles all in straight sets.

MJ Abarca (San Diego, CA) and Cooper Whittington (Lake Oswego, OR) who usually play No. 2 doubles moved up to the top spot winning 6-3.  A new duo of Alex Atwell (Carlsbad, CA) and Luke Watson (Bury St. Edmunds, United Kingdom) combined together at No. 3 to win 6-3, handing the U of R their first point.  The last match on was Zac Nakajima (Beaverton, OR) and Alexander Losani (Hamilton, Ontario, Canada) at No. 2 who were edged 6-4.

Nakajima rebounded nicely at No. 5 picking up the second point winning 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5.  Vitomir Petcov (Portland, OR) came in to play singles at No. 1 and came away with a lopsided 6-2, 6-2 decision moving the score to 3-0.  Whittington then followed in the No. 4 slot taking his match 6-4, 6-1 grabbing the clinch.  Jack Hinkle (Bountiful, UT) came in to play singles at No. 2 and he was tested but managed to earn a break in each set pulling out a 6-4, 6-3 win.  Watson, who played in doubles remained in singles and after a tight 7-6 (4) breaker rolled in the second set 6-0.  The last match on was Jack Fanshawe (Brisbane, Australia) who found himself playing No. 3 and he too after an early breaker 7-6 (2) would cruise in the second 6-2.

Redlands has a much-needed break before returning to the courts for a match-up against the top-ranked Stags of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps next Friday, April 4 beginning at 4:00pm inside the Verdieck Tennis Center.
