PORTLAND, Ore. – The University of Redlands Women's Lacrosse team (4-1, 2-1 SCIAC) is off to their best start since 2013, when they began that season 7-1, as they took down Lewis & Clark College 12-7 Wednesday night ending their trip to the Pacific Northwest undefeated.
After conceding the opening goal, the Bulldogs put away a brace from Nicole Sanders (Irvine, CA) and Emily Webster (Ladera Ranch, CA) to go in front 2-1, while the defense kept the Tigers off the scoreboard for ten minutes.
After the Pioneers tied things up the U of R strung together seven in a row that put them in the driver's seat, leading 9-2 early in the third. During the run April Bryant (Danville, CA) posted a hat trick, Ruby Czajkowski (West Hartford, CT) had a goal and three assists, and Sophia Rangel (Woodland Hills, CA) and Webster also beat the Pioneer keeper.
With less than four minutes to go in the third quarter the Pioneers were able to beat Courtney Myers (Gig Harbor, WA) for their first goal in 30 minutes.
That goal, however, did start a 4-0 run for the Pios that made it a three-goal game, 9-6, with 12:22 still to play. Three of the final four goals, though, came from Redlands with Gwen Guico (Camano Island, WA) scoring the first of her career and Mallory Morrissey (Coronado, CA) picking up an assist.
Defensively the Bulldogs allowed only nine total shot attempts and forced 35 turnovers, which led to a 30-16 ground ball advantage.
Jenna Bradford (Anaheim, CA) led the way in causing turnovers with four and Maya Weaver (Tustin, CA) and Emilie Duputel (Burtonsville, MD) each had three. Cailin Walker (Portland, OR) added five ground balls, Czajkowski with four, and Bradford and Jenny Quinonez Diaz (Menlo Park, CA) each totaled three.
Myers needed only two saves to help the Bulldogs post their third game this season with single digit goals allowed.
Redlands will now begin a stretch of five-straight at Farquhar Field this Saturday morning at 10 a.m. as they host Moravian University.
