Redlands Baseball posts fourth shutout of the season in win at Occidental

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Joe Godoy (Commerce, CA) had his third-straight start with no earned runs allowed and Rylan Morris (Fullerton, CA) drove in the first four runs as the University of Redlands Baseball team (20-12, 9-7 SCIAC) took down Occidental College on the road, 7-0.

Morris homered to left center in the first inning plating Luke De Vries (Irvine, CA), who walked to begin the game, making it 2-0 after two batters. Two innings later Morris made it 3-0 with an RBI-groundout that brought home Jake Burgess (Riverside, CA) who singled earlier.

Following a three-inning scoreless stretch, Morris and Mark Kirkland (Redlands, CA) both picked up base hits helping extend the U of R lead to 5-0 in the seventh.  

In the ninth Tyler Preece (Bellevue, WA) lined out to center for a sacrifice fly and Kirkland drove in Morris for a second insurance run.

De Vries went 1-for-2 with three walks and two runs scored. Morris went 3-for-5 with four RBI's and three runs scored. Kirkland chipped in two hits and two RBI's.

Godoy got the start and when three scoreless innings with six strikeouts. Kethan Efron (Henderson, NV) got the win and held the Tigers off the scoreboard in the fourth. He was the first of six relief pitchers to complete the shut out along with Kyler Bacosa (San Jose, CA), Jack Brown (San Diego, CA), Aziz Bishop (Baltimore, MD), Phillip Economos (Huntington Beach, CA), and Gavin Duenez (Redlands, CA).

The Bulldogs and Tigers meet for a doubleheader tomorrow morning, Saturday, April 12 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at The Yard.
