U of R Women's Lacrosse eases past Cal Lutheran on the road 17-11

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Lacrosse team (10-4, 6-3 SCIAC) outscored California Lutheran University (CLU) 11-5 in the second half in route to a 17-11 road win Saturday.

The Bulldogs and Regals were tied on three separate occasions with the last coming at 6-6 before a 10-4 run for the U of R gave them a large enough cushion to seal the win.

It was 2-0 Redlands in the first four minutes after Ruby Czajkowski (West Hartford, CT) and Nicole Sanders (Irvine, CA) each scored. After CLU's first of the game, Catie Ramicone (Countryside, Ill.) fed Emily Webster (Ladera Ranch, CA) at the 6:59 mark for a 3-2 lead.

With the game tied at three Czajkowski scored another goal, this one with a player advantage, in the first minute of the second. Webster followed it up with an unassisted goal just over a minute later pushing the lead to 5-3.

Just like the first the Regals came back to tie the game at five and then at six after Webster had made it 6-5 Bulldogs. Czajkowski, though, reclaimed the lead off a Natalie Schumann (Murrieta, CA) assist in the first :14 seconds of the third in what was goal number one of a 5-1 run. The other four goals came from Ramicone and three for Sanders. Czajkowski, Webster, and Maya Weaver (Tustin, CA) added assists.

Sanders' goal at the 5:33 mark pushed the Bulldog lead to four, 11-7, in the third. The Regals responded with two unanswered to draw within two before Czajkowski and Gwen Guico (Camano Island, WA) re-established the four-goal lead in the final 2:14 of the third. Lupine Aumack (Eugene, OR) had the assist on Guico's goal.

In the final quarter Guico added a brace with Czajkowski and Webster both finding the back of the net.

Czajkowski had five goals and an assist, Webster and Sanders each had five points thanks to four goals and an assist. Jenny Quinonez Diaz (Menlo Park, CA) caused four turnovers and recovered two ground balls. Jenna Bradford (Anaheim, CA) had two caused turnovers and two ground balls.

Redlands hosts Occidental College on Wednesday, April 16 at 7:00 p.m. as they look to lock up a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament spot.
