REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Lacrosse team (11-4, 7-3 SCIAC) secured their first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament appearance since 2017 (first tournament) following a 14-12 home win over Occidental College as they swept the Tigers for the first time since 2016.
Redlands got off to a strong start, holding Occidental to three goals over the first 21 minutes, while they held a 5-3 lead thanks two goals from Catie Ramicone (Countryside, Ill.) and April Bryant (Danville, CA) and another for Ruby Czajkowski (West Hartford, CT).
From the 8:13 mark of the second quarter to the eight-minute mark of the third the Tigers outscored the Bulldogs 7-1 with Emily Webster's (Ladera Ranch, CA) goal off a Cailin Walker (Portland, OR) assist being the lone time Redlands found the back of the net seeing Oxy get back into the contest.
After the ninth Tiger goal Bulldog Head Coach Suzette Soboti took a timeou, which ignited a 7-1 run by the U of R that had them up by two, 12-10, with 1:35 remaining in the third. The run happened in a span of seven minutes thanks to goals from Webster, Czajkowski, Ramicone, Jacqueline Landucci (San Mateo, CA), and a quick two from Bryant.
Occidental did not go away as they tied the game at 12-12 with 8:15 on the clock. In the final four minutes, though, Redlands got the game-winning goal off a Maya Weaver (Tustin, CA) assisted Ramicone goal with 3:10 to play. Webster added a player up goal for insurance with a minute remaining.
Six different Bulldogs – Walker, Bryant, Ramicone, Webster, Czajkowksi, and Weaver – had multi-point games. Bryant added three caused turnovers and five draw controls. Natalie Schumann (Murrieta, CA) had five ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Gwen Guico (Camano Island, WA) added three ground balls and two caused turnovers. In goal Courtney Myers (Gig Harbor, WA) made four saves, while collecting five ground balls.
The Bulldogs remain at home for their final two regular season games as they host Chapman University next Tuesday, April 22 at 7:00 p.m.
