REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Tennis team picked up a clean sweep over California Lutheran University Saturday morning inside the Verdieck Tennis Center 7-0 to improve to 10-5, 4-1 SCIAC.
The Bulldogs took two of three in doubles with
Vitomir Petcov (Portland, OR) and
Josh Davydov Bellevue, WA) pulling out a 6-2 win at No. 3. The clinch came at No. 2 from
MJ Abarca (San Diego, A) and
Cooper Whittington (Lake Oswego, OR) who pulled out a 7-5 victory putting the U of R up 1-0. The last match on was at No. 1 from
Dominic Anderson (Brisbane, Australia) and
Jack Fanshawe (Brisbane, Australia) who were edged 6-4.
Leading early the Maroon and Grey continued to dominate taking all six singles spots all coming in straight sets. Anderson rolled at No. 1 6-2, 6-2,
Gustavo Marcanth (Redondo Beach, CA) gave up just two games to win 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2.
Petcov continued his impressive first-year with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3, Davydov remained in singles at No. 4 taking down his opponent 6-2, 6-4,
Jack Hinkle (Bountiful, UT) grabbed a break in each set winning 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 and Fanshawe would pull out a 6-1, 6-4 decision at No. 6 helping complete the clean sweep.
Redlands has a big week coming up with both matches occurring on the road. They begin with a match-up against Occidental College on Thursday, April 24 beginning at 4:00pm and then take on No. 23 Caltech on Saturday, April 26 at 11:00am.
