Redlands Women's Lacrosse completes first season sweep of Chapman in eleven years

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Lacrosse team (12-4, 8-3 SCIAC) took down Chapman University, 16-7, Tuesday night at Farquhar Field as they earned their first season sweep over the Panthers since 2014.

April Bryant (Danville, CA) and Emily Webster (Ladera Ranch, CA) put the Bulldogs up 3-0 across the first five minutes. Following a 3-0 response by the Panthers, the Bulldogs would score the final goal of the first quarter thanks to Ruby Czajkowski's (West Hartford, CT) 43rd connection of the season with :15 seconds remaining in the period.

After the goal Bryant would win the ensuing draw control, which was her fourth of the game and the 100th on the season placing her in second place in single season program history.

In the second quarter the Bulldogs scored seven straight as they went into the half riding an 8-0 run. The seven goals came from Mallory Morrissey (Coronado, CA), Ella Batarse (Porter Ranch, CA), Nicole Sanders (Irvine, CA), Czajkowski, Bryant, and two from Sophia Rangel (Woodland Hills, CA).

Cailin Walker (Portland, OR), Bryant, and Catie Ramicone (Countryside, Ill.) made it eleven unanswered as Redlands went from tied at three to up 11, 14-3, with 6:11 on the clock in the third.

A scoring drought of eight minutes for the U of R ended when Webster found Sanders in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter. Sanders scored just over four minutes later as the lead grew back to double digits, 16-5.

Walker finished with five assists, the third most in single-game history. Bryant finished with nine draw controls – 18th most in single-game history – and increased her single season total to 105, 19 away from assistant coach Lacey Douglass' record of 124 from 2018.

Webster's two goals increased her scoring streak to 18-straight games, the seventh-longest streak. Gwen Guico (Camano Island, WA) had three caused turnovers and two ground balls. Courtney Myers (Gig Harbor, WA) earned the win after making six saves on 13 shots on goal faced.

The Bulldogs play Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Thursday, April 24 at 7:00 p.m. for the right to finish second in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) standings and the right to host the other team in the SCIAC Tournament Semi-Final next week.
