LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Tennis team picked up their fifth win and fourth in a row within Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play Thursday afternoon beating Occidental College on the road 5-2.

The Bulldogs have been red-hot improving to 11-5, 5-1 SCIAC and have secured a spot in the upcoming SCIAC Tournament set to take place next week.

Redlands picked up the opening point in doubles sweeping all three spots.  MJ Abarca (San Diego, CA) and Cooper Whittington (Lake Oswego, OR) got back to their winning ways with a solid 6-4 win at No. 2.  Dominic Anderson (Brisbane, Australia) and Jack Fanshawe (Brisbane, Australia) followed at the top spot winning 7-5 picking up a late break and Vitomir Petcov (Portland, OR) and Josh Davydov (Bellevue, WA) wrapped up the matches winning 7-5 at No. 3.

In singles the Bulldogs grabbed four of six matches with four of them going the distance.  Gustavo Marcanth (Redondo Beach, CA) subbed into singles at No. 2 and rolled 6-3, 6-3.  Fanshawe also had a straight sets win at No. 6 pulling out a tight 6-4, 7-5 match.  The last four matches on were all three-setters.  Anderson had a lopsided opening frame winning 6-1 but saw his opponent level things with a 6-3 second set.  He was able to recover though taking the third 6-3.

Petcov found himself up quickly after a dominant opening set 6-1.  But his opponent rallied in the second to win 6-2 forcing a decisive third, which went to Oxy 6-4.  Davydov, at No. 4 found himself behind after his opponent took the opening set 6-4.  But he was able to rally cruising in the second set 6-1 before grinding out a 7-6 (2) decision in the third.

Jack Hinkle (Bountiful, UT), playing at No. 5 had a pair of tight tiebreakers to begin the match.  He dropped the first 6-7 (2) but rebounded to take the second 7-6 (5).  He failed to carry the momentum however into the third set breaker falling 10-5.

Redlands has quick turnaround as they return to the court to wrap up their regular season on Saturday, April 26 when they travel to Pasadena, CA to take on No. 27 Caltech beginning at 11:00 AM.
