REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Tennis team won their second straight match Tuesday night upsetting No. 13 Pomona-Pitzer, 5-2 inside the Verdieck Tennis Center.
After dropping all three doubles sets and trailing 1-0 early the Bulldogs mounted a comeback taking five of six singles matches to come away with the stunner.
Jack Fanshawe (Brisbane, Australia) and
Dominic Anderson (Brisbane, Australia) dropped a quick set 6-1 at the top spot in doubles.
MJ Abarca (San Diego, CA) and
Cooper Whittington (Lake Oswego, OR) followed with a 6-4 loss at No. 2 and
Gustavo Marcanth (Redondo Beach, CA) and
Zac Nakajima (Beaverton, OR) would follow suffering the same fate 6-4 at No. 3.
In singles the Bulldogs put together a rally with Anderson bouncing back at No. 1 winning in straights 6-3, 6-2 leveling the match.
Vitomir Petcov (Portland, OR) followed with a dominant 6-1, 6-4 decision at No. 3 putting UR in front 2-1. The lead stretched to 3-1 following a Marcanth win at No. 2 6-2, 7-5. The Sagehens stopped the bleeding with a win at No. 5 as
Jack Hinkle would get edged 7-5, 7-6. But that was the lone point won by PP as Fanshawe grabbed the clinch at No. 6 winning in three-sets 6-4, 1-6, 6-1. The last match on was
Josh Davydov (Bellevue, WA) who played a tight a two setter beating out his opponent 7-6, 6-4.
Redlands looks to carry this momentum into a match-up inside the Verdieck Tennis Center with California Lutheran University this Saturday, April 12 beginning at 10:00am.
