ST. CHARLES, Mo. – With the Washington University in St. Louis (WashU) Regional moved to nearby Lindenwood University due to damage caused by a tornado at the host facility, the University of Redlands would then take down WashU 2-0 on a Brooklyn Bard (Garden Grove, CA) two-run double and a complete game shutout by Paige Ellinger (Temecula, CA) advancing the Bulldogs to their first NCAA Super Regional. This marks the program's first NCAA Regional Championship title.
The most trouble Ellinger faced all day was in the first when she worked around a single and a walk stranding both runners.
After being held without a hit for two innings, Adyson Kim (Millbrae, CA) got the UR offense going with a single to shortstop to begin the third. Saya Fujii (San Jose, CA) then sacrificed her over with a bunt to second. Paige Messenlehner (Easton, CA) then got hit by a pitch and both her and Kim would advance to second and third on a passed ball. Bard then came up and doubled down the left field line for what would be the game-winning hit and a 2-0 Bulldog lead.
The runs would be more than enough for Ellinger who did not allow a runner to get into scoring position after the first inning. She finished off her shutout with only 90 pitches thrown as she conceded only three hits, all of which were singles.
Messenlehner reached base twice with a walk and hit by pitch and scored one of the two runs, Bard had one of the three Bulldog hits and both RBI's, Kassidy Long (Hemet, CA) singled and walked, and Kim had a hit and run scored.
Redlands now prepares to host Emory University later this week with dates and times to be announced and posted on the schedule page.
