REDLANDS, Calif. – Isabella Culp (Bayliss, CA) accounted for the two Bulldog runs and Katlyn Gandara (Whittier, CA) threw the shutout to lead the University of Redlands Softball team (31-7, 16-3) to their 11th-straight win, the ninth-longest in program history, as they beat California Lutheran University (CLU), 2-0, on Friday afternoon at The Field of Dreams.
The two teams combined for only nine hits as they had runners in scoring position only four times, three of which came from the Regals who also had the lone base runner at third.
Despite this, Bulldog starter Gandara was able to work around the trouble, stranding a one-out double in the second, another runner at second in the third, and then got a groundout to end the game with the tying runners on base in the seventh.
In the second inning with two outs and nobody on, Jenay Scott (Merced, CA) singled up the middle ahead of Culp who took advantage of her at bat doubling into right center plating Scott and moving the score to 1-0.
In the top of the third CLU's runner at second did not advance any further after Gandara recorded a strike out and forced a ground ball from the next two batters.
The final run again came from Culp, this time in the fifth when she led off the inning with a solo home run to left. She finished with two of the Bulldogs five hits and both RBI's. Gandara collected her 12th win on the season after throwing a complete game shutout, going 7.0 Innings, stranding four hits and striking out five.
Redlands will travel to Thousand Oaks, CA for a doubleheader tomorrow, Saturday, May 3 with first pitch scheduled for 12:00pm (Noon).
