Redlands Softball completes sweep of Emory | Advances to Women's College World Series

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Softball team (39-9) led from the second inning on during game two of the NCAA Super Regional against Emory University Friday as they completed the two-game sweep with back-to-back run-rule victories, 13-2, as they punched their ticket to the NCAA Division III Women's College World Series in Illinois next week.

The Bulldogs got the offense going early thanks to senior catcher Isabella Culp (Bayliss, CA) who homered to center field putting the Bulldogs on top 1-0.

Then in the third the Bulldogs pushed a pair across with an RBI-double by Kassidy Long (Hemet, CA), which scored Saya Fujii (San Jose, CA), and a bases loaded walk drawn by Avery Provenzano (San Jose, CA).

The Eagles did respond with a pair of solo home runs with two outs in the bottom of the third pulling within one, and they had the game-tying runner at second, but Paige Ellinger (Temecula, CA), who came on in relief, induced a pop up to Adyson Kim (Millbrae, CA) at third to end the threat.

Redlands doubled their run total to six with a two-run pinch hit triple by Maya Holshoe (Redlands, CA) and a wild pitch that brought her home for a 6-2 advantage.

In the next half inning Emory tried to get back into the game once again, loading the bases with two outs, but Ellinger for the second time made a pitch and got a fielder's choice to Kim who stepped on third to end the final major threat for the Eagles.

In the fifth Kim had both RBI's, which came on a double into right center that made it 8-2 with Jenay Scott (Merced, CA) and Provenzano each crossing home plate. Kim tallied the third run of the inning on a fielder's choice where the catcher threw to second to try to get the runner trying to steal, which allowed Kim to score and Fujii getting back to first.

In the sixth the finishing touches were added by the Maroon and Grey with a Provenzano RBI-double, a wild pitch that allowed her to score, and a two-run single to right by Fujii pushing the final to 13-2.  Scott finished the day going 3-for-4 with three runs scored.  Fujii was 2-for-2 with a run scored and two RBI's and to end the day the Bulldogs combined for six extra base hits, which included four doubles, a triple and a homerun.

Ellinger got the win after throwing 3.1 scoreless innings. She was named the most outstanding pitcher of the super regional. Provenzano was named the most outstanding hitter of the super regional after scoring three times, recording three hits, driving in five runs, and walking three times during the two games.

With the win the Bulldogs will go to Illinois Wesleyan University next week for the 2025 NCAA Division III Women's College World Series. The super regionals across the country will not be completed until Saturday, so full information for the championships is not available yet, but the Bulldogs do know their first match-up which will be against Trine University on Thursday, May 29 with first pitch time to be announced.
