Record breaking season ends for Bulldog Softball against Linfield in World Series

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The University of Redlands Softball team's (40-11) record-setting season came to an end Saturday afternoon as they lost to the No. 4 seed Linfield University 9-1 in six innings bringing their Division III World Series run to an end.

The Bulldogs found themselves down 8-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning needing to score at least one run to extend the game. In the inning Jenay Scott (Merced, CA) singled to left with one out.

Pinch hitter Maya Holshoe (Redlands, CA) hit into a fielder's choice before advancing to second on a wild pitch. Then on a ground ball to the shortstop the Wildcat defender was unable to make the play, which would have ended the game allowing Avery Provenzano (San Jose, CA) to reach and pinch runner Adyson Kim (Millbrae, CA) to come in and score extending the game.

Redlands would allow an RBI-single in the top of the sixth before being sat down one-two-three in the bottom half as the game came to a close in six innings, 9-1.

Brooklyn Bard (Garden Grove, CA) had a walk in the first inning, Isabella Culp (Bayliss, CA) singled, and Scott went 2-for-2 as the Bulldogs managed only three hits.

The Bulldogs end the season with 40 wins, the most by four over the 2013 and 2011 seasons when they had 36. They hit .338, the seventh-highest mark, had 461 hits (2nd), 304 runs batted in (RBI) (1st), 88 doubles (1st), 16 triples (7th), 23 home runs (5th), 148 stolen bases (1st), 346 runs scored (1st), and 168 walks.

Scott finishes the season hitting .459, the sixth-highest mark in program history, and reached base at a .514 clip, which was the 10th-highest mark.

Paige Messenlehner (Easton, CA) finishes 2025 with 169 at bats (1st), 63 hits (8th), 36 stolen bases (2nd), and scored 52 runs (5th). She ends her career with 170 hits (10th), 524 at bats (6th), 133 runs scored (6th), 32 doubles (6th), 95 RBI's (9th), 46 walks (10th), 232 total bases (10th), 67 stolen bases (4th), 20 sacrifices (10th), 178 games played (1st), and 176 games started (T-1st).

Bard had 153 at bats (8th) and 41 stolen bases (1st) on the year. Katlyn Gandara (Whittier, CA) finishes with 46 RBI's (6th). Leila Jackson (Vallejo, CA) had 44 RBI's (8th), doubled 15 times (7th), and homered seven times (10th). Natalie Lowthers (Wrightwood, CA) had a 1.000 fielding percentage (1st) with 37 putouts and six assists behind the plate.

Kassidy Long recorded 14 doubles (10th). In her career she finishes 11th with a .372 career average.

The Bulldogs will lose Messenlehner, Long, Culp, Kaylen Galaviz (Yuba City, CA), and Savannah Barchus (Hillsboro, OR) to graduation, but return six of their nine in their batting order and their aces Gandara and Paige Ellinger.
