CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Basketball team (14-2, 6-1 SCIAC) continued their strong offensive and defensive play with an 81-66 road win Monday evening at Pomona-Pitzer.
Jhace Boston got his first assist of what would be a career-high 10-assist night when he hit Jake Hlywiak (Valencia, CA) for a three-pointer to open the scoring.
The next three baskets for the Bulldogs all came from behind the arc as Hlywiak found Chozen Amadi (Richardson, TX) and Cam Brown (Bakersfield, CA) followed by Boston assisting Derek Sangster (Sunnyvale, CA).
Following Sangster's three, Brown got into the paint before Omari Ferguson (Chicago, Ill.) found Amadi to cap off an 8-0 run, which gave them a 17-9 lead with 14:12 on the clock.
P-P, though, came all the way back and led by as many as two, 25-23, at the 8:07 mark of the first half. Over the final eight minutes Redlands' defensive unit held the Sagehens to just six points and they went into the break up eight thanks to a Donovan Ware (Palmdale, CA) three-pointer and a Brown 4-2 run.
Ferguson found Hlywiak for another three-pointer :13 seconds into the second half to give the Bulldogs their first double-digit lead, 42-31.
The Sagehens came back to make it an eight-point deficit twice, but Nathan Mattera (Fontana, CA) would hit a three with 16:18 remaining in the game to push Redlands ahead by 12 and they maintained their double figure advantage the rest of the way.
Hlywiak, Amadi, and Ware had 10 of the 13 threes for the Maroon and Grey. Boston finished with 10 assists, four rebounds, and three points as the Bulldogs assisted on 22 of their 32 made field goals. On the night Redlands earned 38 points in the paint, 10 fastbreak points, 31 points from the bench, and received 10 points off turnovers. They also shot 48.5% from the field, 37.1% from behind the arc and had four players reach double digures including Hlywiak (15), Lucas Gordon (14), Sangster (13) and Amadi (11).
