Men's Basketball SCIAC Athletes of the Week (Week 11)
REDLANDS, Calif. – The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced their Athletes of the Week Monday for Men's Basketball with University of Redlands senior forward
Lucas Gordon (San Marcos, CA) being selected as the Defensive Athlete of the Week in the eleventh week of voting.
The University of Redlands Men's Basketball team had their biggest week on the season and picked up their biggest win on the season as well going 3-0, which included an upset over No. 9 Claremont-M-S in OT (79-78) handing them their first loss on the season. They also grabbed wins over Pomona-Pitzer (81-66) and Occidental College (93-75).
Gordon was stellar on the week playing just 22.0 minutes a game. He put up 14.7 PPG and 9.3 RPG and shot 58% from the field and 100% from the free-throw line. He also added two steals, three blocks and two assists.
He started off the week with 14 points against the Sagehens with six rebounds, a block and a steal. Then against the Stags he finished with 9.0 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and a block. Then came back with 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting (64.3%) with 12 rebounds, a block and a steal against Occidental.
Redlands has a pair of conference games this week beginning with a showdown against Chapman University on Wednesday, January 28 inside Currier Gym. They then travel to Thousand Oaks, CA on Saturday, January 31 to take on the Kingsmen beginning at 2:00pm.
