ORANGE, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Basketball team (14-4, 7-3 SCIAC) outscored Chapman University on the road by 18 in the second and third quarters of their 77-63 win Wednesday evening.
There were six lead changes in the first quarter. The Bulldogs were up by three early, 4-1, after three minutes thanks to baskets by Leila Hosn (Seattle, WA) and Colbi Zorich (Woodinville, WA). The Panthers then came back and held a pair of four-point leads including with 1:19 to play. An Olivia McIntyre (Spokane, WA) and one, though, cut the deficit to one after a quarter of play.
Down one to begin the second, Hosn made two free throws to spark a 19-7 Bulldog run, which went down to the 2:05 mark as they went from trailing by one to ahead by 11, 27-26. Teagan McIlroy (Phoenix, AZ) had five points, McIntyre six, AJ Wick (Henderson, NV) four, and Andrea Perkins (Seal Beach, CA) with two during the surge.
Chapman did, however, score the final four points of the half cutting the lead to seven, 37-30, going into the break.
The Bulldogs did not concede any points for more than four minutes to begin the second half, during which their offense put up 12 points on the scoreboard to push their advantage to 19, 49-30. Five different players scored during the run with a Hosn-assisted, Perkins three capping things off.
The closest the Panthers got the rest of the third was 16 and the lead was 17 after 30 minutes, 60-43.
Aliyah Anderson (Oceanside, CA) got things started on the right foot in the fourth scoring :10 seconds after the ball was inbounded, but Chapman quickly began a comeback attempt that cut the lead down to single digits, 62-53, with 6:15 still to play.
Wick, Anderson, and Hosn, however, then combined for a 7-1 run that pushed the lead back to five possessions, 69-54, with only 4:20 on the clock.
Hosn got the lead back to 17 with 2:16 remaining as the Bulldogs got their second win in-a-row.
Hosn finished with 20 points on 12 field goal attempts. She also had eight rebounds. Wick had a 15-point, 16-rebound night with four assists too. McIntyre and McIlroy combined for 23 points.
On the night the Bulldogs shot 45.8% from the field, just 22.2% from behind the arc and 79.2% from the free-throw line. They put up 40 points in the paint, added 22 points off turnovers and received 21 second chance points. During the game there were also nine lead changes and five ties.
Redlands will look to split their season series with a win at California Lutheran University (CLU) this Saturday, January 31 on the road as they tipoff at 4:00 p.m.
