Redlands Women's Basketball cruises past Caltech in first home game of 2026

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Basketball team (10-1, 3-0 SCIAC) beat the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) by 55, 105-55, Wednesday evening inside Currier Gym despite preseason All-American AJ Wick (Henderson, NV) being unavailable for the game.

The Beavers went in front on their opening possession before Andrea Perkins (Seal Beach, CA) found Teagan McIlroy (Phoenix, AZ) for a fastbreak layup followed by McIlroy assisting Leila Hosn (Seattle, WA) giving UR the lead, 5-3, which they held the remainder of the game.

Olivia McIntyre (Spokane, WA) got to the line with 3:19 to play in the opening quarter, which gave Redlands their first double figure lead, 17-6. Those two points for her were also the first two during a personal 10-0 run that made it 25-6, Bulldogs after 10 minutes.

On the fastbreak to begin the second, Monica Villanueva (Harbor City, CA) found Kayden Sanders (Nipomo, CA) for a jumper in the paint. Villanueva then scored the next four Bulldog points, which gave them a 21-point lead, 31-10.

The Bulldogs' lead stretched to 30, 45-15, after another McIntyre field goal with a minute remaining. Despite the lead, the Beavers kept fighting, scoring the final five points of the half.

Colbi Zorich (Woodinville, WA) woke up from a quiet first half where she played 14 minutes and had four points by scoring six points in the span of :69 seconds to push the lead for the Maroon and Grey back into the 30's, 61-30.

Hosn and Alex Facelo (San Jose, CA) then followed with triples the rest of the third pushing the lead to 77-33 after 30 minutes of play.

In the final quarter the Bulldog bench continued their strong play with all 28 points coming from them. Villanueva had nine points during the period on 2-for-4 shooting from the field and going 5-for-5 from the free-throw line.

Other scorers during the quarter included Aliyah Anderson (Oceanside, CA) with six, Sanders five, McIntyre four, and Libby Oxciano (Santa Clarita, CA) and Taylor Whaley (Olympia, WA) each with two.

McIlroy finished the night with 16 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds. McIntyre had a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds in just 15 minutes.

For the night Redlands had 16 points off turnovers, 23 second chance points, 62 bench points, 52 points in the paint, and 30 fastbreak points.  They also shot 56.8% from the field, 40% from, three-point territory and 91.7% from the free-throw line.  

Redlands hosts California Lutheran University (CLU) this Saturday, January 10 beginning at 4:00 p.m. following the conclusion of the men's game.
