Bulldog Men's Soccer wins third-straight SCIAC regular season title with win over Chapman

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands men's soccer team (10-3-5, 7-1-3 SCIAC) posted their second-straight four-goal game at home in a 4-0 victory over Chapman University Wednesday afternoon as they secured their third consecutive Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) regular season championship in the process.

The opening goal for the Bulldogs came off the head of Anders Beckton (Seattle, WA) after Anthony Sena (Henderson, NV) chipped the ball in front of the goal to the opposite post for a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute.

Just over 10 minutes later a ball bounced to Bo Robertson (Portland, OR) who turned and shot from outside the penalty area beating the keeper high for a 2-0 lead.

With a 2-0 advantage still in hand in the second half, Zachary Darmanyan (San Diego, CA) fed Thomas Lyden (Thornwood, NY) on the left side of the penalty area before he took a shot that was saved.  But Darmanyan continued his run into the box and was the first to pounce on the rebound for a 3-0 U of R advantage in the 54th.

The final tally came from Sena who finished a loose ball off an attempt by Ryan Hubbard (Aliso Viejo, CA) to make it 4-0 in the 67th minute.

For the game Redlands was outshot 21-19, but held the advantage on shots on goal, 9-7.  They also added 10 corner kicks.  Jaden Nisperos (San Diego, CA) added another clean sheet to his season total, bringing him to nine as he posted seven saves between the posts.

Redlands ends their regular season at the University of La Verne this Saturday, October 31 at 4:00 p.m.  They then enter the SCIAC Tournament next week on Thursday, November 5 as the No. 1 overall seed playing in one of two semi-finals and will play the winner of the first round game, No. 4 vs. No. 5, which is TBD.
