TACOMA, Wash. – The University of Redlands Baseball team (3-5, 3-0 SCIAC) were unable to get their pitching on track at the University of Puget Sound (UPS) as they lost the four-game series finale 21-4 Sunday, which included deficits in the first four innings of 8-0, 10-0, and 17-2.
Trailing 10-0 going into the fourth inning the Bulldogs were able to string together some hits. Nate Miller (San Jose, CA) started things off with a walk and then his pinch runner Karlsen Drake (San Diego, CA) made it to third on a Luke Hanson (Escondido, CA) double.
Eddy Stone (Petaluma, CA) got Redlands on the scoreboard with a sacrifice fly to left before Sean McCance (Irvine, CA) pushed a second run across the plate with an RBI-single into right that scored pinch runner Dylan Andrews (Moreno Valley, CA).
The momentum from the top half of the inning was erased immediately in the bottom half as the Loggers plated five more runs.
In the sixth Drake led off the inning with a single before Stone found grass in right center, which put two on with one out. Bubba Correa (Redlands, CA) took advantage of the opportunity doubling home Drake. Kanan Treece (Riverside, CA) then flew out to center, which made it an 11-run deficit, 15-4, after five and a half innings.
The two sides did not play with a run rule, so they finished the final three innings despite the 11-run gap after the top of the seventh.
Nevan Namgoong (Irvine, CA) came off the bench and went 2-for-3, Miller walked twice before being pinch run for, Karlsen and Stone combined for three hits, three runs scored, and an RBI.
The Bulldogs used four pitchers on the day with the loss going to Kethan Efron (Las Vegas, NV) who lasted one inning giving up eight runs on eight hits.
Redlands returns home for a single game on Tuesday, February 17 against Hope International University with first pitch set for 2:00 p.m.
